Complex Organic Mixtures in Aquatic Systems (COMPASS)
Format and Objectives
COMPASS brings together leading experts from various disciplines with a shared interest in analyzing dissolved organic matter. The symposium focuses on four key subareas:
- Analytical approaches
- Data analysis
- Statistical modeling
- Process-oriented modeling
We will feature engaging talks, including in-depth overviews (30 minutes including discussion) and focused research highlights (15 minutes including discussion). A unique breakout group concept will foster interactive discussions and collaboration in several sessions.
Our goal is to bridge interdisciplinary gaps and stimulate discussions about common objectives, insights, limitations of specific approaches, and the current state-of-the-art in DOM analysis. We hope to identify future research needs and perspectives. By integrating field and laboratory data with theoretical modeling and computer-assisted approaches, we aim to spark interdisciplinary collaboration among participants. To disseminate and solidify the results of these discussions, we will publish two perspective papers, one for each block. The organization and writing of these publications will be led by a senior-junior researcher pair.
