MATLAB_Introduction

Compact course "Introduction to biological data analysis and simulation with Matlab"

Course in SS 2016: 22.8. - 2.9.16 , 9.00 - 17.00

Seminar in W1-0-006, exercises in W1-0-008 (computer room)

Script with exercises for the course:

  • Script SS 2016
  • The script is divided into 9 course days - an additional course day will serve to repeat or review topics that were previously neglected. There are three versions of this script, which do not differ in content. The html version is practical in that it contains links, e.g. for downloading files. The pdf version is best suited for printing (if you prefer to work on paper rather than on screen), in the Word version you can insert notes directly and thus create your own personalised script. It is a matter of taste which version you prefer.
  • Background information for preparation or reference during the course:

  • Concepts of programming with Matlab (Definitions of important terms that will be used constantly during the course. For preparation).
  • A list of Matlab commands introduced in the course(You do not need to memorise these before the course, of course, but you may get an idea of what will be done in the course. In addition, this list can help you during the course and afterwards as a memory aid).
  • Procedure for programming larger projects (This text is aimed more at people who already have some programming experience. So don't panic if you don't understand it straight away, we will discuss it in the second week of the course).

Notes on the course:

  • Each day, we will cover two or three topics, for each of which the course notes contain a brief introduction and a series of exercises. In addition, there will be some ‘homework’ to help you consolidate what you have learnt. However, these exercises may change during the course, depending on how quickly we make progress.
  • As people with varying levels of prior knowledge are taking part in the course, not everyone is necessarily expected to complete all the exercises. The exercises marked with * are to be regarded as additional exercises; some of these are particularly tricky and are marked with **.
  • Please submit your individual solutions to the exercises in your personal folder on the university cloud system. To do this, please log in at
    cloudstorage.uni-oldenburg.de/
. Further information on the university cloud system is available at
    uol.de/itdienste/services/datenhaltung/cloudstorage/
  • On the next day of the course, we will discuss the exercises marked with red numbers. Please save your solutions for the exercises marked with red numbers, as well as for the * and ** exercises you have completed, in your folder on the cloud system. When saving, please use unique file names that include your own name so that we do not overwrite other people’s solutions when we download them.
  • We aim to provide feedback to every participant on at least one exercise each day by commenting on the solution and copying it back into your folder on the cloud system.
  • I will upload sample solutions for the exercises the following day to the public section of the cloud system.
  • Final assignment: The final assignment forms the basis for the awarding of grades. You have four weeks to complete it independently. The assignment will not appear on the homepage until the last day of the course.
