Feedback and complaint management
Feedback and complaint management
Dear students, dear student,
In everyday university life, there may be situations in which you feel you have been treated unfairly, disagree with the behaviour of a lecturer or feel that the workload for a course is inappropriate. In such cases, you can give us feedback. On this page we provide you with an overview of your contacts for re-registering students and complaints. These will be treated confidentially by the named contact persons on request. This means that your name will not be passed on. However, you must disclose your name to the contact person; anonymous complaints will not be processed.
With best regards
Your Dean of Studies Office
Step 1: Seek dialogue - avoid escalation
We advise you to always start by talking to the person whose behaviour you disagree with. A lot can be resolved at this level. It may be useful to involve another person you trust in such a conversation; this could be a member of the student body, for example. The respective student body can also be a first point of contact with whom you can discuss the problem(Fachschaften).
Step 2: If discussions do not continue
If the conversation with the person in question does not lead anywhere or is unconstructive in your eyes, you should first contact the next higher level. Depending on the problem, you should utilise the appropriate feedback and complaint options in the order given:
If there are problems in the areas of "active participation", "regular attendance" or "curricular sequence"
- Module coordinator(s) (always indicated in the module description)
- Institute management (see Institute homepage)
- Standing Complaints Committee of the Study Commission (can be contacted via or via the student representative: .
If your problem relates to a specific module or course
- Module coordinator(s) (always indicated in the module description)
- Head of Institute (see homepage of the Institute)
If you do not agree with a module grade
Here, too, you should first seek dialogue with the lecturer. Grades must be justified; the notification of the grade is an administrative act against which you can lodge an appeal. The examining boards for the respective degree programme are responsible for this and can be contacted via the Examinations Office.
If you do not agree with the behaviour of a particular teacher towards you
(e.g. behaviour in office hours, behaviour as supervisor of a thesis, availability of the teacher, marking of an examination takes an excessively long time, etc.):
- Institute management (see Institute homepage)
If you feel sexually harassed or discriminated against because of your sexual orientation, gender or in any other way in connection with your studies at School III
- conTakt: Counselling centre on issues of sexualised discrimination at the University of Oldenburg, email:
or:
- Equal Opportunities Officer of the Institute (see homepage of the Institute)
- Equal Opportunities Officer of School III
If you wish to complain about a person named as a contact person on this page, please contact the "next higher" instance.
Please do NOT address your complaints to the Examinations Office, as this is actually only responsible for complaints relating to the administrative administration of examinations.
