Curricular sequence

Curricular sequence

What does "curricular sequence" mean?

Curricular sequence means that you are not allowed to take the modules to be completed in your Bachelor's or Master's degree programme at random, but that you must follow a certain order.

Why is there a curricular sequence?

In order to successfully complete advanced modules, knowledge and competences are required that are acquired in the respective thematically related basic module.

In order to successfully complete Master's modules, knowledge and competences are required that are acquired in the thematically related advanced modules.

Just as you do not attend grade 10 before grade 9 at school or do not complete Algebra II before Algebra I in maths, a certain sequence must also be adhered to when studying German studies for reasons of content.

- Curricular sequence in the two-subject Bachelor's programme: German Studies

(see Annex 9 - Subject-Specific Annex German Studies of the BPO, point 2 "General Information on the Programme" (2) Curricular Sequence)

- Curricular sequence in the two-subject Bachelor's programme: Low German

(see Annex 37- Subject-specific Annex Low German of the BPO, point 2 "General information on the programme" (23 Curricular sequence)

- Curricular sequence in the M.Ed. Primary School and M.Ed. Hauptschule/Realschule

The following applies to the M.Ed. Grundschule:
If the project band is completed in German Studies, the module ger800 should be completed before the project band and in one semester. If the project band is not completed in German Studies, the subject-didactic lecture and the subject-didactic seminar must always be taken in the same semester. (see FSA German Studies for the M.Ed. G, point 5)

The following applies to the M.Ed. Haupt-/Realschule:
If the project band is completed in German Studies, the modules ger771 and ger805 should be completed before the project band and in one semester. (see FSA German Studies for the M.Ed. HR, point 5).

- Curricular sequence in the M.Ed. Gym

In the M.Ed. Gym, you must complete either the specialised internship (FP) or the research and development internship (FEP) in German Studies.

Please note that in order to attend the preparatory course for the FP or the FEP, it is strongly recommended that you have already successfully completed ger771 or that you complete it in the same semester as the preparatory course for the FEP/FP in German Studies.

- Curricular sequence in the M.Ed. Sopäd

If advanced modules have already been studied before completing the Bachelor's degree programme, the curricular sequence listed under "Bachelor" must be adhered to. Module ger231 is not part of the subject-specific annex for the subject German Studies / Teaching German for the M.Ed Sopäd and can therefore not be chosen in the M.Ed Sopäd.

Note: If you are already studying advanced modules before completing your Bachelor's degree programme, this is not a case of bringing modules forward. This is because the advanced modules are also part of the Bachelor's examination regulations according to which you are studying. If you have any questions in this regard, please contact Mrs Brören.

- Curricular sequence in the M.Ed. programme in Science Education

If you would like to study advanced modules before completing the Bachelor's degree programme, you must adhere to the curricular sequence listed under "Bachelor". Module ger231 is not part of the subject-specific annex for the subject of German Studies / Teaching German for the M.Ed. in Education and can therefore not be chosen in the M.Ed. in Education.
Note: If you are already studying advanced modules before completing your Bachelor's degree programme, this is not a case of bringing modules forward. This is because the advanced modules are also part of the Bachelor's examination regulations according to which you are studying. If you have any questions in this regard, please contact Mrs Brören (eske.broeren@uol.de).

- Curricular sequence when bringing forward Master's modules

The following curricular sequence, shown on the right, must be followed when bringing forward Master's modules:

If you have not yet completed your Bachelor's degree and would like to bring forward Master's modules, please first follow the instructions at uol.de/germanistik/lehrveranstaltungen-germanistik-anmeldeverfahren/vorziehen-von-mastermodulen/

For information on taking advanced modules in the M.Ed. Wipäd and M.Ed. Sopäd, see "Curricular sequence in the M.Ed. Sopäd" and "Curricular sequence in the M.Ed. Wipäd".

- Curricular sequence in the adaptation programme

The curricular sequence also applies to students on the adaptation programme.

For example, if you have been given the requirement to complete ger242 Language and Literary Socialisation (for primary level) and ger800 Subject-specific Didactics with a subject-specific component. You must complete the ger242 module in your first semester at the University of Oldenburg. Only then, i.e. in the following winter semester, may you study the ger800 module.
In other words, successful completion of ger242 is a prerequisite for completing ger800.

Please note that the ger800 module is only offered in the winter semester!

I have already submitted the examination in the module whose successful completion is a prerequisite for attending the module I have been notified of. However, the grade is not yet available. May I attend the notified module?

In accordance with the subject-specific annex to the German Studies BPO, the following applies: The lecturers guarantee that the assessment of the examination performance in the prerequisite module is completed in good time so that registration for the module based on it is possible in accordance with this regulation; otherwise the prerequisite does not apply.

For example, if you wrote the written exam in the ger010 lecture in winter semester 22/23 and handed in the examination in the seminar to your lecturer on time in summer semester 23, but the correction has not yet taken place, you may already complete the modules ger251, 261, 271 and 291 in winter semester 23/24.

In accordance with the subject-specific German Studies Annex to the BPO, the following also applies: In modules that are a prerequisite for taking other modules, a retake examination should be offered in good time so that the subsequent module can still be taken in the following semester if the retake examination is passed.

Is there a hardship provision?

In particularly justified cases, the module coordinator may allow a deviation from the curricular regulations. Therefore, please contact the module coordinator if you believe that you have a particularly justified case. You can find the module coordinator(s) in the module description in Stud.IP.
