Compatibility of family and doctorate
In 2004, the University of Oldenburg was the first university in Lower Saxony to be awarded the Family-Friendly University Audit certificate (re-audited in 2007). This includes family-friendly working hours and programmes, a corresponding information and communication guideline, the development of corresponding personnel management skills (handout: "Framework conditions and scope for action for family-friendly personnel management") and the provision of corresponding services and framework conditions for studies and academic qualifications. In the context of reconciling family and academic appointments, the childcare centre in the immediate vicinity has recently been expanded. Furthermore, construction work has already begun on a new daycare centre on the university campus.
Doctoral students are supported by structural and financial measures to make it easier to combine a doctorate with family life. These include
- Support in finding kindergarten and crèche facilities
- Childcare services at the workplace and outside normal nursery and kindergarten hours
- Financial support in the household if required
Further information can be found on the website of the university's family-friendly university project group.
