Chemical Oceanographie

Trace elements and their isotopes in the ocean act as vital micronutrients, tracers of present and past element input and fluxes, geochemical processes, internal cycling, and as tracers of water mass transport within the ocean. The sources of trace elements to the ocean and the processes leading to element input determine the area, nature, and timing of biogeochemical cycles and primary production in the ocean with implications for marine ecosystems and atmospheric CO2. It is therefore of high interest, to better characterize and understand trace element input to the ocean as well as their cycling within the ocean. Our research group is currently working on several projects in different areas of the ocean, that are focused on these aspects, most of these projects are part of the international GEOTRACES Program (www.geotraces.org).

Our current research can be divided into projects in the:

OPEN OCEAN   and   COASTAL OCEAN
