PD Dr. Bert Engelen

PD Dr. Bert Engelen ...

... was born in 1963 in Duisburg, Germany. Since 2001, he is working as a research associate in the "Paleomicrobiology group" at the "Institute for Chemistry and Biology of the Marine Environment" (ICBM) at the University of Oldenburg.

He has studied biology in Braunschweig, Germany with microbiology, biochemistry and sanitary environmental engineering as main subjects. He made his Phd in 1998 at the "Federal Biological Research Centre for Agriculture and Forestry" and continued working for three years as a postdoc at the "Federal Research Centre for Biotechnology" (GBF).

Besides his teaching duties at the university, his main research interest is the analysis of microbial communities in marine sediments, but also in other habitats such as soil, the water column, or coal-, gas-, and oil deposits.
