Restore a file accidentally deleted from a network drive

All files on the network drives (L-drive, group drives) are protected against accidental deletion by a snapshot backup that is automatically executed every full hour. The snapshots are kept for the last 24 hours at hourly intervals between 06:00 a.m. and 21:00 p.m. After that, a daily snapshot taken at midnight is available. With the help of these snapshots, you can restore even accidentally deleted files from the last 4 weeks. Older files cannot be restored even by IT Services.

Please note that the call of the previous version is processed as a background process with low priority. If the storage system is heavily used, the search for previous versions may be aborted. Carry out the steps described below to search for the previous versions several times if necessary.

The starting point for the recovery is always the parent directory in which the file is or was stored. You cannot retrieve the previous version from an existing file.

In the following, the recovery is explained using the example of a deleted file on the L-drive.

Open the Explorer and click on the L-drive with the right mouse button.

Then click on Previous Versions

There you will see your "data history", which you can now view by clicking on a point in time and then displaying it by clicking on Show. Once you have found your lost data, you can copy it. To do this, click on the Copy... button and then select a suitable storage location and click on the Copy button to complete the process.
