About the Teaching and Learning with Digital Media department

Contemporary university teaching

In the mission statement for teaching at the University of Oldenburg, educational processes are understood as a joint endeavour by teachers and students to identify social challenges and create responsible solutions. An educational process understood in this way requires contemporary teaching that is collaborative, communicative and co-operative; teaching that promotes communities of inquiry - research-based learning communities. How can teachers develop and design appropriate formats using digital technologies? This question is addressed by the Teaching and Learning with Digital Media unit as part of the Department for Study Affairs.

Digitalisation and media didactics

Digitalisation is not just about technical change; in the university context, it affects both the content and the didactic design of teaching. Digitalisation can also provide important impetus for a change in teaching and learning culture. However, the use of digital media does not automatically lead to contemporary teaching, as pedagogical effects do not come from the technology itself. The central question for the design of teaching with digital media is therefore how digital technologies can be used to encourage students as independent learners to organise and design their learning process and the processing of learning outcomes and research findings independently.

Counselling, workshops and other offers

We support teachers through counselling, further training and handouts. Our work focuses not only on the various digital tools, but above all on issues relating to the appropriate didactic design of teaching and learning with digital media. Our programmes also promote exchange, communication and networking among teaching staff at the University of Oldenburg. They also provide inspiration and ideas on how to promote research-based learning, interactivity, peer feedback and active engagement with content in courses.

And otherwise ... Co-operations, projects, tutor qualification

We support projects (e.g. OLE+, Q+FL, Innovation+, participate@UOL) on topics relating to the design of teaching with digital media. We also offer courses as part of the tutorial qualification programme, e.g. for moderating online tutorials.
