Eight minutes for science
Steffen Kortlang wins the ‘groschen’ Science Promotion Prize
Oldenburg, 13 July 2012. Science can be easy to understand. Five early-career researchers demonstrated this yesterday at the LzO headquarters in Oldenburg during the final round of the LzO “groschen” Prize for Science Communication, which carries a prize of €10,000. The candidates – Thomas Greve, Christian Horneber, Steffen Kortlang, Dorthe Lamers and Katharina Remer – each had eight minutes to present their research as clearly and compellingly as possible. In the end, Steffen Kortlang, a researcher in Medical Physics at the University of Oldenburg, won the coveted prize with his presentation on the sorting of acoustic signals to improve hearing aid technology. The audience prize, worth €500, also went to him.
Steffen Kortlang accepted congratulations from Martin Grapentin, Chairman of the Board of the Landessparkasse zu Oldenburg (LzO).
