The University of Oldenburg’s 2nd Research Day, taking place on Wednesday 13 November from 9.00 am to 4.00 pm in the Library Hall (Haarentor campus), is entirely dedicated to early-career researchers and their development. The event is organised by the Department for Research and Technology Transfer.
“Training outstanding early-career researchers is one of the University’s stated objectives. Research Day therefore focuses on the wide range of PhD and funding programmes available to doctoral candidates,” emphasises Prof. Dr Katharina Al-Shamery, the University’s Vice-President for Research.
The university’s PhD and funding programmes provide young academics with optimal support in planning their academic careers through structured supervision and further training opportunities. In addition, PhD candidates are given the opportunity to gain qualifications for leadership positions in non-academic professional fields. “Our programmes ensure the highest standards of quality in doctoral research,” says Al-Shamery.
Research Day begins with the presentation of the Carl von Ossietzky Young Researchers’ Fellowship – a grant awarded by the university for the first time this year. It supports outstanding and highly qualified early-career researchers who have already completed their doctorates, giving them the opportunity to carry out an independent research project.
In the workshops that follow, early-career researchers and other interested parties will discuss topics such as supervision models, gender equality and internationalisation, as well as subject-specific and interdisciplinary skills. The afternoon will focus on research programmes for early-career researchers. The event will feature presentations by Oldenburg’s DFG Research Training Groups, as well as the doctoral programmes funded by the Lower Saxony Ministry of Science and the Helene Lange Colleges for early-career female researchers.
