The university provides training? Absolutely! More than 50 apprentices are currently employed in the university's various trades and departments. At the "Job4u" trade fair at the weekend, they presented their professional fields and training content together with their trainers.
Engine models, hard discs, a wired greenhouse - there was plenty to marvel at and touch at the university's stand at the Job4u youth fair. The objects came from the university's workshops and laboratories. They are used there in everyday life or were created as final theses by trainees.
Most people realise that not only scientists work at a university, but also employees in administration and for the technical infrastructure. However, the fact that many academic appointments can also be learnt at universities seems to surprise many. In the workshops, laboratories, library and central administration offices, the University of Oldenburg offers training in ten academic appointments, from chemical laboratory technician to media designer to administrative assistant. As one of the largest employers in the region, it takes responsibility for young people starting their careers and at the same time trains the employees of tomorrow. Committed trainers introduce the trainees to the academic appointments in a varied and practical way - with many insights into the world of science. Vocational schools teach the theoretical basics.
This year was the fifth time that the university has taken part in the "Job4u" fair: it has had its own stand for the past two years, having previously participated in a joint stand organised by the Ministry of the Interior and Sport. The careers fair takes place every autumn. Pupils can find out about job profiles, training companies and universities from companies in the region. In addition to direct contact with companies, the fair focuses on dialogue with trainees from the various academic appointments. Parents can also find out about the opportunities and prospects for their children.
