University Senate decision on the office of President on 11 March.
Following today's public university hearing, the search committee for the office of President of the University of Oldenburg has recommended Prof. Dr Dr Hans Michael Piper (62) to the University Senate for election:
Prof. Dr Dr Hans Michael Piper (62), medical doctor and former Rector of the University of Düsseldorf, now Head of the Institute for Molecular Medicine III with a focus on cardiovascular research at Düsseldorf University Hospital.
The University Senate is to be elected on 11 March 2015.
In accordance with the Lower Saxony Higher Education Act (NHG), the search committee, which is made up of members of the University Council and the University Senate, selects one or more suitable candidates and proposes them to the Senate for election. A two-thirds majority of the University Senate is required for success in the first ballot. If this is not achieved, an absolute majority of votes is sufficient in the second ballot. If the University Council approves the University Senate's choice, the appointment is made by the Ministry of Science.
