How does inventing work? And why do inventors sometimes find it difficult to inspire others with their good ideas? Exciting questions like these are also on the programme in the tenth year of the KinderUniversität Oldenburg. Advance ticket sales for the spring semester start on 7 February.
The first lecture for eight to twelve-year-old children will be given by Oldenburg social scientist and innovation researcher Prof. Dr Jannika Mattes on Wednesday, 6 March. The young students will learn all about inventing and how great ideas are transformed into new products that can then be bought in shops.
The spring semester continues on Wednesday, 13 March. On this day, Computing Science Professor Dr Sebastian Lehnhoff will address the question "What does an anthill have to do with a smart grid?". Researchers can learn a lot from animals - for example, if they want to develop new power grids to ensure that people can continue to be supplied with energy in the future.
The lecture "Hydrogen - the mysterious gas" originally planned for 27 February has unfortunately been cancelled due to the speaker's illness.
The lectures start at 4.30 pm. Admission to the lecture theatre centre (A14) on the Haarentor campus is from 4.00 pm. Tickets (€2) for both spring lectures are available from Thursday, 7 February by calling Nordwest Ticket GmbH on 0421/363636 and 01805/361136 (14 ct/min) and at the offices of the Nordwest-Zeitung.
Under the umbrella of the KinderUniversität, there are once again numerous other opportunities to discover the world of science this year: for example in the university chemistry laboratory (CHEMOL), in the sensory school, in the children's research centre, in the teaching and learning laboratory physiXS or online at "Physics for Kids" and the Sachunterricht learning workshop. Courses on physics, chemistry, biology and technology are also offered by the Natural Science House Oldenburg (NAWI House). The "Green School" activity days in the Botanical Garden and the "Sensory School" also invite you to join in. Children can experience art up close and get creative themselves in the seminars at the Kunsthalle Emden and the Horst Janssen Museum. The Oldenburg State Theatre will present the results of two theatre projects.
The KinderUniversität project would not be possible without the commitment of the sponsors. This year's main sponsor is once again the Landessparkasse zu Oldenburg (LzO). The project also receives considerable support from Nordmetall, the business association "Der Kleine Kreis e.V." and Junge Öffentliche. The Malteser Hilfsdienst provides security on site.
The media partners Nordwest-Zeitung, NDR 1 Niedersachsen and Radio Bremen Vier also make a major contribution to the success of the KinderUniversität.
