What makes a young person devote themselves entirely to music? Soprano and music teacher Ute Büchter-Römer explores this question in her book "Erzählte Biographie". She will present it on 25 January at 6 p.m. as part of the composer colloquium "Musik unserer Zeit".
Büchter-Römer uses biographical writings by well-known musicians and artists - from Clara Schumann and Fanny Hensel to Elisabeth Leonskaja and Sol Gabetta - to analyse which events and experiences set the course for their musical careers and how their individual artistic careers developed.
Büchter-Römer studied music and German language and literature at the Cologne University of Music and completed her vocal studies in Essen. With a Lise-Meitner habilitation scholarship, she wrote and published her habilitation thesis on aspects of new music theatre and strategies for communicating it in 1995. She has produced programmes on New Music for WDR, Bayrischer Rundfunk and Deutschlandfunk.
The event will take place in the Chamber Music Hall, Building A11, Haarentor campus. It is organised by the composer and university lecturer Prof. Violeta Dinescu.
