Starting your career

Twelve young men and women started their training at the university this week - from precision mechanics to chemical laboratory technicians.

Twelve young women and men have started their training at the university this week – ranging from precision mechanics to chemical laboratory assistants.

“Starting out in working life is one of the most important steps for young people,” said Jörg Stahlmann, Vice-President for Administration and Finance, during the official welcome. “You are now part of this university, and we attach great importance to providing you with an excellent apprenticeship.”

During the first week of their training, the new ‘class’ had two joint induction days. They gained an insight into all the apprenticeship programmes at the university, got to know the trainers and went on guided tours of the library and the various university sports facilities. They also spoke with representatives from the Staff Council and the health management team. In addition, Findus Kirsch, the university’s youth and trainee representative, introduced himself.

This year, two precision mechanics, two chemical laboratory assistants and two IT specialists, as well as three systems electronics technicians, one animal caretaker, one media and information services assistant and one swimming pool operations assistant are each starting their vocational training. In total, around 50 apprentices in various years of their training are currently completing their apprenticeships at the university.
