Prof Dr Babette Simon, President of the University of Oldenburg, has been appointed to the Scientific Advisory Board of the Ludwig Boltzmann Gesellschaft (LBG). The LBG, based in Vienna, is the Austrian funding organisation for non-university research. With 17 Ludwig Boltzmann Institutes and five Ludwig Boltzmann Clusters, it conducts cutting-edge research in the fields of medicine, humanities, social sciences and cultural studies. The focus is on health sciences with a concentration on both medical and social science research. The tasks of the five-member Scientific Advisory Board include advising on the strategic development of the LBG.
The LBG is named after the Austrian physicist, mathematician and philosopher Ludwig Boltzmann, whose broad scientific interests still set the tone for the interdisciplinary nature of the LBG.

Prof Peter-André Alt, President of Freie Universität Berlin Prof Georg Friedrich Bauer, ETH Zurich Prof Helga Nowotny, President of the European Research Council Prof Gerhard Franz Walter, former Rector of the Medical University of Graz, International Neuroscience Institute Hannover.
Simon has been President of the University of Oldenburg since 2010. Among other things, she is a member of the Medical Committee of the German Council of Science and Humanities and Senator of the Helmholtz Association for the Research Field Health.
