O-Week und First semester Weekend
Community is at the heart of our programmes and what better way to get to know each other than during Orientation Week!
During the week of 5 - 9 October 2026, before the official start of lectures, we want to give you the opportunity to get to know each other in peace and quiet, to get an overview of the campus and the city, and to find out what to expect in the coming months! There will be a mixture of information, games and fun. You will also be accompanied throughout the programme by mentors from the higher semesters, who will be available to answer any questions you may have about your studies or anything else.
We’re currently still in the process of planning Orientation Week for you. To give you a taste of what’s in store, you can already take a look at last year’s programme here. We’ll publish this year’s programme in due course here on the website and on Instagram.
You can already make a note of the dates for the introductory sessions on 5 October 2026:
- Nachhaltigkeitsökonomik (B.Sc.) from 2 pm to 3.30 pm in Building A01 Room 0-010b
- Sustainability Economics and Management (M.A.) from 2.15 pm to 3.45 pm in Building A01 Room 0-006
- Sustainable Marine and Coastal Management (M.Sc.) from 2.15 pm to 3.45 pm in Building A01 Room 0-004
Further information and registration for O-Week, as well as links to the WhatsApp groups for each degree programme, will be sent to your university email address. We will be sending out these emails from mid-September, so be sure to check your inbox.
We look forward to seeing you!
Save the date:
Our first-year trip will take place in Neuharlingersiel from 6 to 8 November 2026. It’s open to all SEM, SMCM and NÖK first-years. It’s a great opportunity to get to know each other even better. Be sure to keep this weekend free and add the date to your calendar.
Do I have to take a preparatory course before starting my studies?
No – there are no (mandatory) preparatory courses offered in any of the three degree programmes.
However, the SEM Master's programme does have prerequisite courses in microeconomics, mathematics and business administration. You can find out whether you need to take these courses in your acceptance letter.
The compulsory course Microeconomics („Mikroökonomische Grundlagen der Umwelt- und Ressourcenökonomik“) will probably take place as a block course again before Orientation Week. However, as of 13 July 2026, the exact times and rooms are not yet known. As soon as they are confirmed, the course should be listed on Stud.IP.
The exact start and end times may change on individual days, based on past experience. This is usually discussed during the event, so you can also have a say in how things go. Be sure to keep an eye on the announcements on Stud.IP.
The compulsory courses in mathematics and business administration take place during the lecture period. You can find the rooms and dates on Stud.IP.
A brief introduction to Stud.IP
Stud.IP is the central platform for many important services related to your studies.
Here you will find your university email, course and exam registration, enrolment certificates and much more.
We have a short video for you that explains the most important features. The introduction was recorded in 2023 – since then, hardly anything has changed in the system, so it is still up to date.
The only difference is that two-factor authentication is now required for registration.
Information on this and instructions for setting it up can be found here at IT Services: https://uol.de/2fa
