Field work - Vilnius conference
Slavic fieldwork and student conference in Vilnius
In September 2025 (14-21 September), the Institute is finally offering an excursion for the first time in a long time!
We will be travelling to Vilnius to look for Russian, Ukrainian, Polish and Belarusian traces: who remembers what and how (and why, and what does that tell us)? We will explore these traces on the basis of street names and buildings, museums, monuments and churches, library archives and cemeteries, but also with an attentive ear and eye in public spaces, for example by looking at what people are called, what languages you hear on the street, what is on offer in souvenir shops or on restaurant menus.
A prerequisite for participation in this trip is attendance of the preparatory exercise "Vilnius as an intersection of Slavic cultures" with Mrs Ulyana Veryna (VA number in stud.IP: 10.34.013).
Participating lecturers: Gun-Britt Kohler, Ulyana Veryna, Patrick Zeller
