Between integration and exclusion
Between integration and marginalisation. Living conditions of second-generation Turkish migrants.
As a second generation of migrants grows up in the FRG, questions that are of central importance for all immigrant societies have also become relevant for German society: What does integration mean and what does marginalisation mean? What determines whether integration succeeds or leads to marginalisation or even permanent exclusion? These questions were analysed for the second generation of Turkish migrants in the dimensions of work, social networks and housing. The study is based on the one hand on interviews with second-generation Turkish migrants living in two typical migrant neighbourhoods and on the other hand on interviews with gatekeepers of the labour and housing market, i.e. people who decide on access and placement in the workplace or housing on the basis of their academic appointment.
