Courses in the winter semester 2024/25

The Big Data in Medicine department(https://uol.de/versorgungsforschung/bdim) is offering new courses (Bachelor's and Master's) in the field of "Medical Informatics" for students of Computing Science, Business Informatics and Engineering of Socio-Technical Systems. Students from School V are also welcome to take part in the subject module in the area of specialisation.

The following courses will be offered in the coming winter semester 2024/25

- Introduction to Medical Computing Science (Bachelor inf528 & Master inf524)

Why does so much need to be documented in medicine and what forms of documentation are there? How can Computing Science help medical professionals with this? What do terminologies and interoperability have to do with this? In this course, you will learn the basics of the link between medicine and Computing Science. You will find out in which medical areas a lot is already being digitalised, how AI is finding its way into medicine and what legal challenges/framework conditions await computer scientists in the field of medicine.

- Clinical Decision-Support Systems (Master inf527)
Clinical Decision-Support Systems (CDSS) are "(...) any computer program designed to help healthcare professionals to make clinical decisions" [Shortliffe et. al 2011] - It sounds so simple, but is difficult to implement. In this course, you will learn about the types and application classes of CDSS, analyse requirements and technical implementation concepts and discuss success factors, opportunities and limitations - using existing CDSS or CDSS you want to develop yourself.

- Discussion of current topics in Medical Computing Science (Bachelor inf809 & Master inf590)
In this seminar, we discuss current topics related to Medical Computing Science - based on new technologies, publications, research results or projects.

- Research seminar Big Data in Medicine (Bachelor)
You will learn how to apply scientific methods to an exciting research topic from the field of Medical Computing Science. For example, you will research literature, familiarise yourself with it, understand and evaluate the approaches and discuss them according to scientific standards. It is possible to take the research seminar as a supplement to the final thesis.

- Theses (incl. advanced seminar, Bachelor and Master)

- Specialisation in "Medical Computing Science" in the Master's degree:

The Master's modules offered arecredited towards the specialisation "Medical Computing Science"(https://uol.de/informatik/msc/vertiefung/medizin).

We look forward to your participation!
