Division of Epidemiology and Biometry

Welcome to the webpage of the Division of Epidemiology and Biometry (EuB) within the Faculty of Medicine.

News:

  • The team is changing:
    • We will be supported by a new staff member in Epidemiology byJuly. More on this later - we are looking forward to it!
    • We expect to advertise two permanent researcher positions in biometrics in the near future (E14, consulting for clinical studies in the KKS; E13, project consulting with a focus on young clinical scientists). Both positions involve a reduced teaching load and scientific involvement in our department. Please contact us if you are interested!
    • Ms. Neuser is currently on maternity leave.
    • Ms. Beckhaus has returned full-time to pediatric oncology.
    • Ms. Tiles-Sar has completed her joint PhD and project period with us and is now back in Groningen full-time.
  • We have moved - you can now find us in building V03 in the A-wing on the second floor - best to enter through the foyer.
    • We had already changed departments at the beginning of 2023 - Epidemiology and Biometry are now clinical-theoretical subjects in the Department of Human Medicine.
    • The secretariat has been staffed by Ms. Schrand since the beginning of September 2023.

Projects:

Clinical Epidemiology: A Daydream?

"To the pure clinician, the clinical research published in general medical journals is no longer really understandable, because the design and the analyses have become too complicated. To the pure methodologist, it may not be evident how particular findings fit with background clinical and basic science knowledge. .....If we want to preserve and reinforce proper judgements about the theory and practice of medicine—including the use of ‘big data’ and the use of ‘personalised medicine’—we need people with both types of knowledge in one head"

Vandenbroucke 2017

"Zwei Dinge sind zu unserer Arbeit nötig: Unermüdliche Ausdauer und die Bereitschaft, etwas, in das man viel Zeit und Arbeit gesteckt hat, wieder wegzuwerfen"

Albert Einstein.
