PruSearch FOR 2690 - Young Scientist Meeting September 2023
The Young Scientists are a group of young scientists from different German universities working together in the DFG-funded project PruSearch FOR 2690. They come mainly from the fields of Medicine, Biology and Computing Science and work in different sub-projects of PruSearch. To achieve their goals, they have formed a network for scientific and interpersonal exchange. ⛰ Research sometimes takes researchers to unusual places - for example, to the Zugspitze. Contrary to what the great pictures suggest at first glance, Natalie Gray does not deal with weather phenomena or mountain research.
➡ As part of her doctoral thesis, the molecular physician is investigating the interaction of lipids and immune cells in inflammatory skin diseases. With her research data, which she collected in the Department of Experimental Allergology and Dermatology in the Department of Human Medicine, she was recently invited to this year's Winter School of the Arbeitsgemeinschaft Dermatologische Forschung.
❄ The unusual thing: The three-day event with poster presentations and expert lectures traditionally takes place at an altitude of 2,650 metres below the Zugspitze peak - at the highest environmental research station in Germany, the Schneefernerhaus.

First "Tour de Faculty" a success
Full house in the laboratories of the departments of Prof. Ulrike Raap(Dermatology/Allergology) and Prof. Karin Loser(Immunology) (W16), Prof. Bernhard Rauch (Experimental Pharmacology) (W03) as well as Prof. Stefan Schrader (Ophthalmology) and Prof. Anja Bräuer (Anatomy/Molecular Neurobiology) (W34). From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., visitors were able to look around the premises at the Wechloy campus, get to know the respective work and discuss it with the professors and their staff. Around 200 visitors took advantage of this offer, including many students from the degree programmes in Human Medicine, Neuroscience , Physics, Technology and Medicine (PTM) and Molecular Biomedicine, as well as numerous colleagues from the various departments of Faculties V and VI. Food and drink were also provided: in addition to waffles, biscuits and popcorn, there was children's punch and mulled wine.

DGAKI goes Asia

Joy over successful certification at the University Clinic for Dermatology at Oldenburg Hospital
The Skin Cancer Centre Oldenburg Hospital, represented by Prof. Dr. med. Ulrike Raap, was certified by the German Cancer Society e.V. OnkoZert (DKG) on 05.11.2020. The substitute certification is an outstanding success for the University Department of Dermatology and Allergology.
The team around Prof. Raap (Head of the Skin Cancer Centre), Dr. Löhr (Coordinator of the Skin Cancer Centre, Senior Physician Dermatology) and Dr. Renzelmann (Supervision of dermato-oncological system therapies in the Skin Cancer Centre, Senior Physician Oncology) worked for many months to successfully pass the DKG audit, which is divided into several phases. "We have worked for a long time to successfully lead the Skin Cancer Centre through the initial certification. Thanks to the great performance of everyone involved, we have also successfully passed," Prof. Raap is pleased to say. This award certifies that oncological cancer patients are optimally cared for in every phase of their disease. The basis for future certification is annual proof of compliance with the professional requirements and, for example, the use of an established quality management system.
For the patients of our region, the award means a safeguarding of established structures, a high level of professional performance and the security of being treated by an experienced team with high standards. For the Skin Cancer Centre, this is an award of the highest quality and once again proves the high professional standards that distinguish the University Clinic for Dermatology and Allergology at Oldenburg Hospital.

Video glasses instead of medication
The University Clinic for Dermatology and Allergology at Oldenburg Hospital is breaking new ground in non-drug itch and pain therapy. The clinic uses video glasses to distract and relax patients.
