The MCA conducts measurements of so-called basic parameters in the scope of scientific cooperations.

Basic parameters are defined as inorganic and organic elements and species, which are of fundamental importance for research and teaching at ICBM.

The MCA consists of the following research groups:

• Marine Isotope Geochemistry
• Processes and Sensing of Marine Interfaces
• Organic Geochemistry
• ICBM-MPI Bridging Group for Marine Geochemistry

Formally, the basic parameters are assigned to the follwing three categories:
