The pathway "clinical-practical skills" is a longitudinal element that has been integrated into the modules in terms of content, aligned with the internships. In this longitudinal pathway in particular, the concept of the spiral curriculum can be seen very well. In terms of content, the internships build on the learning content covered in the modules and complement each other with the "Communication" internships. The acquired competences are practised and deepened during the outpatient observations.

The individual courses "Clinical-Practical Skills" were described in a year-spanning guideline and are supported in each case by suitable specialist literature. The learning objectives were also aligned with the Heidelberg standard examination and specifically describe the clinical-practical skills to be acquired.

During the first three years of study, the procedures and techniques of the basic physical examination are taught. The focus is on physiological findings and their variants, but also on naming the significance of the structures examined and their physiological properties. Furthermore, in the course of the courses, students should lose their shyness about communication and physical touch in order to create an open doctor-patient relationship. In years two and three, the teaching content is taken up again and expanded to include their pathology, as well as examination techniques of other disciplines. This pathway is supplemented by seminars relating to pathologies that cannot be presented in mutual examinations. In year 4, the focus shifts to pathophysiological content and, in preparation for the block practicals, the integration of the various examination techniques into a well-rounded examination of the patients. The anatomical, physiological and theoretical background of the respective examination techniques as well as the basic knowledge acquired in years 1-3 are required.
