Admission to the Master's degree module requires enrolment and at least 60 CP (mandatory: gsw730 Advanced Clinical Assessment, gsw780 Research Methods I and gsw790 Research Methods II).

The Master's thesis is completed at the end of the programme. You choose the exact start date in consultation with your supervisor. The start date does not have to coincide with the beginning of the semester. You must register with the Examinations Office using the official form.

The time from the issue of the topic to the submission of the Master's thesis is eight months. You will be officially informed by the Examinations Office when you have to submit your thesis at the latest.

Please note that the thesis will be failed if you do not meet the submission deadline and do not provide valid reasons for missing the deadline.

In individual cases, the examining board may extend the processing time by up to two months upon justified proposal.

If you are unable to take the examination during the processing time (so-called inability to take the examination), you must submit appropriate proof in order to receive an extension.

The notification of incapacity to take an examination and proof of this must be submitted to the Examinations Office immediately. You can submit the proof via the contact form for students .

The submission of a certificate of incapacity for work is accepted as proof, unless another form has been requested by the Examinations Office. The certificate must contain a statement about the expected duration of the illness. Please always address the certificate to the Examinations Office and not to the assessors. They will receive a notification from the Examinations Office if the reasons for the extension have been accepted. Please remember to notify the reasons for extension immediately, i.e. at the earliest possible date.

You will independently look for a supervisor and a topic for your thesis in the Department of Health Services Research. You can either write your thesis within the Department of Health Services Research (internal thesis) or at an external institution (external thesis). If the latter is the case, please refer to the document "Rules for external Master's theses".

The thesis is assessed by two appointed examiners who act as assessors. During the processing time, you will be supervised by the first assessor.

As a rule, supervisors must be members of the School V - School of Medicine and Health Sciences professors' group who are involved in teaching on the relevant Master's degree programme. In exceptional cases, two full-time lecturers from the faculty who are not members of the professors' group may also supervise internal work. In this case, the head of the working group in which the work is to be carried out must formally approve the supervision.

When submitting your thesis, please ensure that you have written it independently, have not used any sources and aids other than those specified and have followed the general principles of scientific work and publications in accordance with the guidelines of good academic practice of the University of Oldenburg.
