Application
General admission requirements
The admission requirement for the Master’s programme is a Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification in a relevant previous degree programme comprising at least 180 credit points.
A previous degree programme in Nursing, Nursing Sciences, Health Sciences or another clinically oriented degree programme is generally considered relevant if it incorporates professional nursing training or requires such training as an admission requirement. If the previous degree programme does not incorporate this training, proof of it must be provided separately.
To make it easier for both you and us to assess whether the previous degree programme is relevant, we ask you to complete this supplementary form and enclose it with your application.
Specific admission requirements
Proof of German language proficiency at C1 level (DSH-2) is required for applicants whose native language is not German and who neither hold a German university entrance qualification nor have obtained a first university degree in a degree programme taught in German. Application process
Applications for the first semester are only accepted for the winter semester. The application period and portal depend on the location where the degree was obtained (see table).

Preparatory German course
Applications for a preparatory German language course in the summer semester (20 hours per week from April to July) prior to the start of the Master’s programme in the winter semester can be submitted via uni-assist.de by the deadline of 15 January. Applicants who require a visa should, in their own interests, apply three months before the application deadline to ensure they can arrive on time for the preparatory German course. Admissions process
The Admissions Committee will consider each application as soon as possible, and the decision will be communicated to the applicant via the Admissions office. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact the programme co-ordinator at any time at .
Conditional admission is possible if
1) the Bachelor’s degree has not yet been awarded, but at least 150 ECTS credits have been earned. The Bachelor’s degree certificate must be submitted to the Admissions office by 1 April of the following year at the latest.
2) the C1 proof of language skills has not yet been obtained. The proof of language skills must be submitted to the Admissions office by 30 September, at the latest before enrolment.

The Admissions office sends the offer of admission via the application portal. Enrolment can now be completed via the portal. Payment of the semester fee and submission of the enrolment proposal (which can also be done digitally) finalise the enrolment process.

Orientation Week (O-Woche)
Orientation Week is organised for first-year students before the start of the lecture term. There are both general and programme-specific activities on offer. We ask students who have enrolled to get in touch if Stud.IP is not working or if they have not yet received any information about Orientation Week by the start of October.
Lecture period
Each semester comprises approximately 14 weeks of lectures. Most courses take place during this period.
Lecture-free period
During the lecture-free period, a few courses take place (e.g. block weeks in the 1st and 3rd semesters) and exams are held. Exam dates are usually agreed between lecturers and students. Students’ preferences are taken into account wherever possible!

What does ‘Advanced Nursing Practice’ mean?
Advanced Nursing Practice (ANP) is a concept for expanded and specialised nursing activities in direct patient care. According to the definition of the International Council of Nurses (ICN), Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) are nursing professionals who have acquired expert knowledge, decision-making skills for complex situations and clinical competencies for advanced nursing practice. The nature of these competencies is shaped by the context and/or the conditions of the respective country in which they are granted admission to practise. A Master’s degree in Nursing Science is a prerequisite.
How and in which areas do APNs work?
‘APN nursing experts’ can provide care for a specific patient population with complex care needs and possess clinical expertise in this field. They work within a healthcare organisation (acute, long-term inpatient, outpatient or home care) alongside other professionals and interdisciplinary teams. They involve family carers and the wider support system. They play an important role in promoting health literacy and can also be deployed in highly technical settings or in health promotion and prevention. How much can I work alongside the part-time degree programme?
The Master’s degree programme in Nursing – ANP qualifies students for advanced roles in direct patient care. To ensure a direct link between the degree programme and clinical practice, the degree programme is offered as a part-time study. We recommend that your work commitment does not exceed 50 per cent during the lecture term. Currently, our students work between 60 and 100 per cent.
When do the modules take place?
Classes take place on Mondays and Tuesdays during the lecture term in the 1st and 2nd semesters, and on Wednesdays and Thursdays in the 3rd semester. In the 4th and 5th semesters, teaching takes place exclusively online. A placement must also be completed in the 4th semester. There are no compulsory courses during the lecture-free period (‘semester holidays’). In the 1st and 3rd semesters, one elective module is offered as a block week in each semester. Is there a fee for the Master’s programme?
For the consecutive degree programme, only the semester fees are payable.
