Erice Attosecond School

This week, Arvid, Katrin and Lina attended the Attosecond School in Erice, Sicily, together. They met lots of new people there, listened to exciting lectures and presented their own research. There was also time for a short excursion on Thursday. The list of invited speakers promised a very well-coordinated programme and we look forward to hearing their impressions on their return. Many thanks to the organisers for their support with travel expenses.

Kerstin's master's degree and start of her doctorate

Kerstin successfully defended her Master's thesis entitled "Optical Strong-Field Electron Emission from Double Nanoholes in a Photoemission Electron Microscope" today. We would like to publish her results in a scientific journal as soon as possible. She will support us in this endeavour, as she will be starting work on her doctorate with us in a week's time. Congratulations on her graduation (also from the three travellers), thanks for the cake (not from the three travellers) and a good start to the doctoral period!
Finn and Paul start their bachelor theses
Today, the last two students started working on their Bachelor theses with us shortly before the start of the semester. Finn is working with Germann from the UNO group on the investigation of electron emission from carbon nanotubes using PEEM. Together with Lina, Paul will analyse TMD heterostructure samples on the femtosecond time scale, which colleagues from Jena have produced for us. We wish both of you a good start!
Leon gets going
Leon started his Bachelor's thesis today. In it, he will be looking at space charge effects in the photoemission electron microscope. These are the biggest obstacle to realising attosecond time resolution on the nanoscale with this device. In his work, he will be researching ways to better understand and ultimately control space charge effects in specific geometries.
Olivia and Lars start their bachelor theses
Today, Olivia and Lars have started their respective bachelor theses in our research group. Olivia will perform time-resolved PEEM measurements on aluminium-clad indium arsenide nanowires, while Lars will measure and actively stabilise the carrier envelope phase of our ultrashort laser pulses. We wish them both lots of fun and success with their projects and a good start!
Kenned starts!

Kenned Howe started his bachelor thesis in our group today. He will take a closer look at the non-collinear optical parametric amplification of ultrashort laser pulses and in particular investigate the question of which experimental set-up is particularly favourable for the amplification process. We wish you much success and fun with "phase matching"!
Welcome, Hristina

Hristina Delibašić-Marković is visiting us for six weeks as a guest scientist from Serbia. She is an expert in light field-driven photoemission processes and will be gaining practical experience in our laboratory alongside further theoretical work. We wish her a successful research stay in our group!
