E-books of the ZB MED
The ZB MED has a large catalogue of e-books that can be searched and accessed via ORBISplus. However, ZB MED library access is required for access.
How do I register for free remote access?
You will need:
- either a regular library card from the Cologne location - this is issued on site at the library's circulation desk
- or a virtual library card for remote access only
For the virtual user card, fill out this proposal and send it together with a double-sided copy/scan/photo of your valid identity card (or one of the documents listed here )

The number of the virtual ID card will be sent to you by email or letter. The ID card is issued free of charge. The card is valid for one year. The completed proposal and the copied documents are required again for renewal.
How does remote access work?
After you have found the desired titles via LIVIVO, the EZB or the links above, you will be redirected to a proxy registration page.
For the registration you need
- the ID number of your (virtual) ZB MED user card
- the password - by default, the 6-digit date of birth DDMMYY is set up
