Digital media: from TikTok to serious gaming and critical engagement
How do digital media influence our everyday lives, our learning and the way we live together? What opportunities do platforms such as TikTok or digital games offer – and what challenges arise from disinformation and algorithms?
These are the questions explored during the ‘Science Meets School’ event day. The aim of the programme is to provide young people with contact with current social issues in a way that is accessible, relevant to their lives and dialogue-based. Under the theme ‘Digital media: from TikTok to serious gaming and critical engagement’, pupils in Years 8 and 9 will actively explore various facets of digital media. The event begins with a joint introductory session, followed by a four-hour workshop phase in which pupils explore a topic of their own choosing in greater depth. The focus is on discussion, practical approaches and collaborative reflection
