Over the past 20 years, 375 participants have already gained qualifications through the further education programme in ‘Wind Energy Technology and Management’, known as the ‘Windstudium’. This educational programme, the first of its kind in Germany to offer academic training for the wind energy sector, has played a key role in meeting the demand for skilled workers in the industry.
To mark the 20th anniversary of further education, an anniversary event will take place on Friday 13 June from 3.00 pm at CORE Oldenburg (Heiligengeiststraße 6–8). Those interested can register by sending an email to windstudium@uni-oldenburg.de.
Following the opening address by Prof. Dr Andrea Strübind, Vice-President for Studies and Teaching at the University, EWE board member Dr Christian Friege will give a talk entitled ‘From wind power to hydrogen: the next phase of the energy transition’. This will be followed by a presentation by Prof. Dr Sebastian Lehnhoff, Chairman of the Board at OFFIS – Institute for Computing Science, on the topic: “Digitalisation of the Energy Transition: Where do we stand and what comes next?” Both speakers will then take part in a panel discussion with Prof. Dr Claudia Kemfert from DIW Berlin and Roland Hentschel from the Oldenburg Energy Cluster (OLEC) on the challenges facing the transformation of the energy system. The event is supported by the Oldenburg University Society.
The wind energy degree programme was developed by ForWind, the WAB e.V. association and the City of Oldenburg. ForWind coordinates wind energy research in north-western Germany and brings together 30 institutes and research groups from the universities of Oldenburg, Hanover and Bremen. The C3L has been offering the further education programme since 2020. Over the course of eleven months, participants gain practical, interdisciplinary experience in realising a wind farm from the planning stage through to operation. Industry professionals provide a comprehensive understanding of wind energy projects – ranging from natural sciences and engineering through to business administration, law and project management. The next class of participants begins in August 2025.
A network of more than 400 alumni, lecturers and cooperation partners has developed around the further education programme. In addition to regular meetings, there is a special offer to mark the anniversary year: in mid-September, alumni will travel by sailing ship to the Husum Wind trade fair and back.
In addition to the wind energy programme, the C3L offers further education programmes in the field of renewable energy and sustainability: the next further education course, ‘Hydrogen for Specialists and Managers’, begins in October. August will see the start of the first intake for the new further education course ‘Permit Procedures for the Energy Transition’. Through the EFZN Academy, which is currently being established under the leadership of the C3L, the findings of Lower Saxony’s energy research are being put to practical use.
