“Diverse Reflections of Consciousness… – World Literature in the Modern Era” is the theme of the series of lectures on philosophy for the summer semester. The series begins on Monday 9 April at 10.00 am in the University Library Hall (Haarentor campus, Uhlhornsweg 49–55) with Prof. Dr Dieter Lamping from the University of Mainz. His lecture, entitled ‘What is World Literature? Thoughts Following Goethe’ will introduce the topic.
The series of lectures, which is academically coordinated by Prof. Dr Matthias Bormuth from the Institute of Philosophy, comprises a total of twelve lectures. It not only provides insights into selected works of world literature, such as those by Virginia Woolf, Elias Canetti and James Joyce, but also examines the fragmentation of modern Western society depicted in these works from a cultural-philosophical perspective.
The series of events is a co-operation between the Institute of Philosophy and the C3L – Centre for Lifelong Learning, in association with the Karl Jaspers Society. Interested members of the public from the region are invited to attend the lectures as guest listeners or as members of the Karl Jaspers Society.
