Brief description and objectives
As part of the research programme "Transformation of the Energy System Lower Saxony" (TEN.efzn), for which the Energy Research Centre of Lower Saxony (efzn) is responsible, the C3L is developing a new type of efzn Academy together with the efzn. Researchers and further education institutions at five universities in Lower Saxony are participating in this Lower Saxony-wide education and knowledge hub for the energy transition.
The aim is to qualify subjects and managers in business, administration and civil society and to train the urgently needed experts for a sustainable energy transition. At least 20 independent programmes are to be developed to support the energy transformation:
- Offshore wind energy
- Digitalised energy systems
- Geothermal energy
- Energy transition in municipalities
- Heat pumps and cooling systems
- Research data management
- Innovation competences
The TEN.efzn joint project comprises six research platforms that are dedicated to the energy transition from both a technical and scientific as well as a social perspective. They focus on strategies for the sustainable expansion of wind energy in the German North Sea, ammonia as a potential energy source of the future and trust in digital and automated energy systems. The utilisation of underground geo-reservoirs will also be investigated, as will the development of innovative heat pump technologies and the social challenges of the energy transition. All research focuses are linked via an innovative transfer system that promotes the exchange between science, business, politics and civil society and supports the practical implementation of research results, the training of specialists and the development of innovations and start-ups.
The Energy Research Centre of Lower Saxony (efzn) is a scientific centre of the universities of Braunschweig, Clausthal, Göttingen, Hanover and Oldenburg, which bundles energy research expertise from various disciplines.
