Hardship provision: caring for parents, spouse, siblings or children
Hardship provision: caring for parents, spouse, siblings or children
Summer semester 2026
If you are caring for parents, spouses, siblings, grandparents or children, please proceed as follows to register for German Studies courses:
- Please send in the period from 22.01.2026 to 21.02.2026 at the latest. i.e. before the start of registration for the courses, send an email to with the subject "Hardship application" in which
- you informally apply for the hardship provision "Caring for parents, spouse, siblings, grandparents or children" to be applied to you;
- you enter your Stud.IP user name. Please note: this is not your email address. Rather, you will find the user name when you log into Stud.IP, click on "Profile" and then on "Personal details". It has the form of "EMustermann" or "EMustermann1". The user name is required so that we can clearly identify you in Stud.IP.
- Be sure to attach a file in the form of a current certificate (not older than 6 months) from the health insurance company about the care and the care to be provided to this email. The degree of kinship must be evident, i.e. the documents submitted must show that the person you are caring for is your parent, spouse, sibling, grandparent or child. The documents submitted will of course be treated confidentially and will be destroyed as soon as we become aware of them.
- Please note: Incomplete proposals and proposals submitted late cannot be considered.
Otherwise, please enrol for German Studies courses as normal(see notes here). You will be included in a list in Stud.IP that is not visible to the outside world and this will be added to the registration procedure so that your enrolment requests (see description of registration procedure) are given top priority.
Please only attach the above-mentioned documents to your proposal. The submission of your preferred courses has become obsolete with the new procedure!
A new proposal must be submitted for each semester!
Please note:
There is no general entitlement to consideration of the hardship application; it depends, among other things, on the available capacities in the courses.
The application applies to German Studies courses that take place in the degree programmes offered by the subject. For other subjects, please enquire about the regulations in the respective subject or School.
