A part-time assistant post ( 12 hours per month ) is to be filled at the earliest possible date in the Department of Low German Didactics. The contract will initially run for one year, with the possibility of extension.
Since the winter semester 23/24, the Institute for German Studies has offered a Bachelor’s degree programme in Low German, followed by two Master of Education degree programmes (for primary/secondary school or grammar school). Like all teacher-training degree programmes, these programmes include a component on subject-specific didactics.
We are looking for someone who is studying either Low German or German Studies. They should, on the one hand, have an interest in the Low German language in combination with teaching methodology (language and literature teaching methodology) and, on the other hand, have completed the introductory courses ndt033 of the Low German BA programme or ger033 of the German Studies BA programme. The role is varied:
Assisting with the preparation of courses in all modules of Low German didactics at Bachelor’s and Master’s level
Assisting with the organisation and delivery of networking meetings between the University of Oldenburg, the Regional State Offices for Schools and Education, and the Lower Saxony Ministry of Education and Cultural Affairs
Providing academic support (primarily literature research, proofreading manuscripts for lectures or essays)
Support with language policy work
Knowledge of Low German is not a requirement, but is welcome.
What the post offers: Low German didactics is a very young academic discipline alongside Low German linguistics and literary studies. Thematically and methodologically, it lies at the interface between German didactics and foreign language didactics, as well as between linguistics and language didactics. The post offers the opportunity to familiarise yourself with various topics and to play an active and creative role in shaping them. You will, of course, receive guidance and support during your induction. The post fosters creativity, independence, organisational, coordination and communication skills, as well as academic work. It also offers a glimpse behind the scenes of university teaching and language policy work.
