Study

Low German can be studied as part of the Bachelor’s degree in Low German, Master of Education (Gymnasium) and Master of Education (Hauptschule and Realschule) can be studied, or as additional qualification: a Low German certificate as part of the Bachelor’s degree in German Studies, the master's degree programme in German Studies or the Master of Education for teaching German at Gymnasium.

For school pupils, selected courses relating to Low German and/or Sater Frisian are available in the summer semester as part of a taster course . For interested members of the public from the region and beyond, we are opening our doors as part of the auditor programme .

The Low German and Sater Frisian Department at the University of Oldenburg is also a member of the ‘Teaching Low German’ (LeNie) teaching network, which develops and provides inter-university courses for students of Low German at the participating universities, thereby complementing the courses offered at the students’ home universities in terms of both subject matter and methodology, and, not least, promoting early networking and exchange among students in the subject.
