With over 13,000 students and 700 employees, Plekhanov Russian University of Economics (PRUoE) is the largest School of Economics in the Russian Federation. In addition to the subjects of economics, the range of study programmes includes subjects such as mathematics, politics and law as well as Computing Science and the humanities.
The International Business School (IBS Plekhanov) at Plekhanov University offers economics courses in English (at both Bachelor's and Master's level). Students taking part in these courses should have sufficient knowledge of Russian to participate in university life, in life with and among Muscovites and in the cultural life of the city and the university. Students at Plekhanov University have the opportunity to do internships in the Moscow catering industry, at the Moscow Stock Exchange, in the financial sector and in other specialised areas.
Plekhanov Russian University is one of the first universities in Russia to join the Bologna Process. Grades are therefore given in ECTS. Full-time students are expected to complete approximately 30 credits per semester. Course selection can be planned in advance, but is only finalised on site. At the beginning of the semester, the university organises an orientation week, during which students are informed about everything they need to know and have the first opportunity to meet Russian students. The International Office also offers a pick-up service from the airport (50 euros) or the main railway station (30 euros).
Everyday life
The Plekhanov Russian University of Economics is located in the centre of Moscow. The capital of the Russian Federation has over 10 million inhabitants in the city centre and over 14 million in the suburbs. This population density makes Moscow the largest city in Europe. It is the political, economic and cultural centre of the country with universities and technical schools as well as numerous churches, theatres, museums, galleries and the 540-metre-high Ostankino Tower. Moscow is the seat of the Russian Orthodox Church.
Students should expect living costs of around EUR 400-500 per month for accommodation in student halls of residence. A monthly ticket for all means of transport in Moscow costs around EUR 30, single journeys are around EUR 0.50-0.80. Prices in supermarkets, bars and restaurants are sometimes higher than in Germany (and most other Russian cities).

Documents required for the visa application
An official invitation from the Russian Ministry of the Interior or Ministry of Foreign Affairs with the purpose of stay учеба (study) is required for a visa to be issued. Students receive the invitation (or letter of acceptance) directly from the partner university. With this invitation, a visa for multiple entry and exit with a validity period of up to one year can be applied for at the embassy or the responsible consulate in Germany.
