Supervision of doctoral candidates

The supervision concept is based on a threefold structure of academic supervision (supervision), general supervision (monitoring/mentoring) and career support (external speakers/practical forums/internships).

Academic supervision

Academic supervision is organised in a tandem supervision model. In addition to supervision by a representative of the student's own discipline, there is a second supervisor who ensures the interdisciplinary and/or international orientation of the work.

Mentoring programme

Independently of the academic supervision, discussions are held once a semester with the mentors chosen by the students. This is intended to give the fellows the opportunity to use an independent point of contact beyond the primarily scientific exchange and independent of the specialised supervision relationship to point out possible problems or make suggestions, which in turn are confidentially incorporated into the organisation of the Research Training Group.

Career support

In addition to preparation for an academic career, career support also includes preparation for later employment in science-related fields. In addition to the workshops organised by the Research Training Group, fellows can take advantage of the services offered by the Career Service, the Graduate Academy and the Graduate School for Social Sciences and Humanities 3GO at Carl von Ossietzky University.
