Academic appointment:
- Studied art history, sociology and philosophy in Freiburg and Berlin.
- 1980 Dissertation ("On the social function of art. Historical analysis and empirical investigation in companies in the Federal Republic of Germany", University of Bremen).
- After completing her studies, worked in exhibitions (including exhibitions on the history of work and the history of archaeology) and in art education; various teaching assignments, including on "female socialisation" at various universities.
- 1984-1990 Research assistant at the Berlin University of the Arts
- 1992 Habilitation at the University of Hamburg ("Petrified femininity. Studies on allegory and its status in modern sculpture").
- Between 1988 and 1993 visiting professorships at various universities (1988/89 Gesamthochschule Kassel; 1991/92 Technische Universität Braunschweig; 1992 University of California, Davis; 1992/93 University of Tübingen).
- 1993 academic appointment as university professor in Department 2 "Communication/Aesthetics" at the University of Oldenburg.
