Custodies of the University of Oldenburg
Welcome to the collections of the University of Oldenburg
The scientific collections at the Carl von Ossietzky University are very diverse. A total of 84 collections are stored at 14 locations. The spectrum ranges from everyday textile objects to living plants and historical measuring instruments from the field of physics.
The university was founded in 1973; this diversity of collections is not a matter of course at such a young university. As a reform university, it is home to a large number of scientific collections, including some of more recent origin. These include DEFA films, textbooks, clinical models and simulators or the holdings of the Karl Jaspers Library. What all university collections have in common is their function: they are intended to serve research and teaching.
With the aim of strengthening these functions and networking the collections more closely with each other and making them better known, the "Custodies of the CvO" have been forming a joint working group since 2017.
This portal provides insights into the university's active collections and presents the work of the "Custodies of the CvO" at the University of Oldenburg.
