On our own behalf

On 1 January 2025, the Office for Teaching Strategy (Stabsstelle Universitätsstrategie - Schwerpunkt Lehre) was established with Isabel Müskens (email: isabel.mueskens@uol.de) as Head of the Office. It supports the university's strategic development in the area of teaching by providing strategic advice and overarching conceptual work, supporting strategic degree programme planning, coordinating external funding applications for strategically relevant teaching projects as well as managing and monitoring project implementation, supporting the digital transformation and developing the University as an open institution of higher education (with programmes and courses open to a diverse range of target groups).

The following teams still belong to the Department for Studying and Teaching:

Online self-study course on gender-sensitive STEM teaching

In the self-study course ‘Gendersensible MINT-Lehre - wie und warum?’ [in German], teachers will find ideas on how to make their courses gender-sensitive. The teaching and learning methods presented are particularly suitable for teaching hard sciences or technical content. The self-study course is embedded in a Stud.IP study group that is open to all interested instructors and also offers the opportunity for exchange.

Digital SOUVER@N tool collection has been published

The recently published ‘Souver@ne Toolsammlung’ from the SOUVER@N project provides a structured overview of various digital applications to facilitate the search for tools in higher education. The collection contains short descriptions and direct links to all tools. Users can also search for tools that are suitable for their specific purpose and offered by their own university using filters and free text. The tool collection can also provide help for non-teaching staff (e.g. administrative staff).

Internal Evaluation

Course evaluation: Voluntary registration open until 15 May

In addition to the selection made by the schools, instructors can voluntarily register their own courses for the course evaluation [link in German]. This can be done until 15 May in Stud.IP via the course management system under the ‘Overview’ tab.

Survey results from winter semester 2024/25

Course evaluation

The course evaluation results for the 2024/25 winter semester [link in German] are available on the intranet.
In the summer semester, the course evaluations will run 16 – 27 June 2025, but teachers can request alternative dates.

First-year student survey

Once every two years, Bachelor's and State Examination students in their first semester are surveyed about their satisfaction with the start of their studies and their expectations and wishes.
The results of the first-year survey from the 2024/25 winter semester are published on the Internal Evaluation pages of the intranet.

Students in joint study programmes

Students in teacher training degrees at the universities of Oldenburg and Bremen have the opportunity to attend courses at the other university in subject which are not offered at their home institution.
In the 2024/25 winter semester, students of these subjects were asked about the challenges of studying at two universities at the same time. The results of the survey of students in joint study programmes [link in German] are available on the Internal Evaluation pages of the intranet.

"Focus groups" are now called "Dialogue in Focus"

Dialogue in Focus, previously known as Focus Groups, is a moderated group discussion based on predefined guiding questions. In the 2024/25 winter semester, this method was used in two degree programmes and provided valuable insights into programme development.
In March, the Internal Evaluation presented ‘Dialogue in Focus’ at the spring conference of the AK Hochschulen (Working Group on Higher Education) of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Evaluation e. V. in Cologne.
If you are interested in implementing this method at your department, please contact us (evaluation@uol.de). An increasing number of transfers or high dropout rate are some of the topics that can be addressed with this qualitative feedback method.
