During the celebrations marking the 25th anniversary of the cooperation between Nelson Mandela University and the University of Oldenburg from 26 to 30 June 2023, a delegation from South Africa led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Sibongile Muthwa also visited Oldenburg.

Highlights of the cooperation week include a welcome ceremony on 26 June where the universities signed a joint roadmap, a symposium on 27 June and various other events, most of which were not public. The annual International Summer Fest on 28 June 2023 also picked up on the cooperation anniversary in a thematically appropriate way.
