Lothar Cremer Prize awarded to Volker Hohmann
March has seen a flurry of awards for Oldenburg’s research into hearing: five days after Dr Jesko Verhey was honoured by the German Society for Audiology, the German Acoustical Society (DEGA) has awarded its prestigious Lothar Cremer Prize, that is, the most prestigious prize for early-career researchers in the field of acoustics, to Dr Volker Hohmann, a Privatdozent.
Hohmann is Deputy Head of the Department of Medical Physics at the University of Oldenburg and Head of Research and Development at the Oldenburg Hearing Centre and the HörTech Center of Competence. The prize recognises his outstanding ability in research and teaching, which he has demonstrated in particular through his habilitation thesis on ‘Model-based signal processing for hearing aids’. “In honouring Volker Hohmann, the DEGA is recognising an exceptionally versatile hearing researcher who is just as adept at combining basic research and modelling in psychoacoustics with speech processing in hearing aids and other modern speech-processing systems as he is with the audiological measurement methods ‘made in Oldenburg’,”, the laudatory speech states.
