Studying music in all its diversity
Whether a Finnish band is playing tangos at the festival, a children's choir is rehearsing new songs, the new production of "La Bohème" is being booed at the opera or hip hop from Morocco is being streamed on the internet - music in many different forms characterises our lives today.
Music is conceived, made to sound and heard. From simple acoustic stimuli to complex compositions: Music triggers emotions, affects the body, mind and social behaviour. It is part of historical contexts and accompanies and initiates current social practices.
As diverse as the manifestations and functions of music are, so too is the subject of musicology with its historical, systematic and media studies components. At the University of Oldenburg you can study these different academic approaches to questions of music in all their diversity.
