Neuro advisory board

The patient advisory board of the research training group

Neuro Advisory Board

Who we are

We are a group of individuals who provide advice and support to researchers. Some of us are affected by motor or cognitive impairments ourselves, or have relatives with these impairments, or have contact with affected individuals in our medical work.

What we do

Our own experience enables us to support researchers in adapting experiments to the needs of test subjects. For example, we read questionnaires for test subjects before they are handed out. We also test experimental setups during the preparation phase. And we read texts before they are published (on websites, information sheets, etc.) to ensure that they are easy to understand.

Why we participate

Through our work, we learn about the latest research – even before the results are published in journals.
We want our contribution to improve research so that new therapeutic approaches can be put into practice quickly.

When do we meet

We meet with the researchers from the research training group approximately every three months.
At the meetings, we work on small tasks and discuss current issues. The tasks and issues are very diverse in nature.

Brief summary of previous meetings

7th meeting (planned for April 2026)

Ms Luisa Schmidt and Mr Paul Grupe will present the results of their current studies.

6th meeting (January 2026)

Professor Christiane Thiel, spokesperson for the Neuromodulation Research Training Group, presented the new focus areas for projects in a possible second funding period for the Research Training Group. She also asked the advisory board members about recruitment. Ms Thuy Tien Mai gave an overview of her planned Hot-PD study and asked the advisory board members for their input, particularly with regard to the feasibility and possible difficulties involved. Finally, Ms Luisa Schmidt invited the advisory board members to discuss whether and how study participants would like to be informed about the results of the studies.

5th meeting (October 2025)

The HEARAZ research training group introduced itself. HEARAZ is concerned with the development of ear-based networked technical assistance systems. It investigates the contribution these can make to everyday life and healthcare. HEARAZ plans to set up its own advisory board and is gathering information about the Neuro Advisory Board. The advisory board members were asked about the framework conditions of the Neuro Advisory Board and gave their views on the work of the Neuro Advisory Board.

4th meeting (April 2025)

The Neuro Advisory Board website is now online! A declaration of consent for a planned database was then reviewed for comprehensibility. Ms Polte then reported on her study planning on the topic of ultrasound treatment as a novel Alzheimer's therapy. Ms Wienecke then discussed a planned study with the advisory board members, in which decision-making for various treatment methods is to be examined from the patient's perspective.

3rd meeting (January 2025)

First, the improved website was presented and reviewed again. Ms Deng and Ms Pinkert then reported on their study on the simultaneous processing of a motor and a cognitive task.

2nd meeting (September 2024)

Today, the user-friendliness of the website was reviewed: how easy is it for interested individuals to find the website in order to obtain more detailed information on how to participate in studies?

1st meeting (June 2024)

In this first meeting, all participants introduced themselves and Dr Anna Levke Brütt presented the research training group in more detail. The possible tasks and the idea behind a neuro advisory board were explained.
The advisory board members were asked how potential test subjects can best/easiest be reached to fill out questionnaires and watch short videos, for example.
