Educational week

The motto of this year's Pedagogical Week is "Shaping change yourself". One of the highlights is the opening lecture by educational researcher Hilbert Meyer.

This year’s Education Week is themed ‘Shaping change ourselves – digital, inclusive, intercultural and language-sensitive’. One of the highlights is the public opening lecture by education researcher Hilbert Meyer.

The teachers’ conference, taking place from 24 to 27 September, will focus on digitalisation in schools, the implementation of inclusion and interculturalism, including language sensitivity. The event is organised by the Didactic Centre (diz) in co-operation with the Oldenburg Further Training Centre (OFZ). The programme covers all types of schools and is aimed at teachers, educational staff, trainee teachers, students and anyone with an interest in education.

A public lecture will open the Pedagogical Week: On Monday 24 September at 4.00 pm in Lecture Theatre Centre A14 (Uhlhornsweg 86), the Oldenburg-based education researcher Prof. em. Dr Hilbert Meyer will speak about current and future challenges in everyday school life and how they can be overcome. Specifically, the talk will address the increasing digitalisation of learning, the trend towards personalised and competence-based teaching, and collegial collaboration within multi-professional teams. Afterwards, the organisers invite attendees to a ‘get-together’. Admission to the opening event is free; please register at uol.de/pw2018/anmeldung/.

The three subsequent specialist days will focus on the themes ‘digital & smart’ (Tuesday), ‘inclusion in practice’ (Wednesday) and ‘intercultural & language-sensitive’ (Thursday). Each day begins at 9.00 am with a keynote talk introducing the day’s theme. Afterwards, participants can choose from a varied selection: in 50 sessions, academics and practitioners will present the latest innovations, new methods and examples of best practice. The topics range from raising awareness of fake news to multi-touch textbooks and language-sensitive teaching using digital media.

A large schoolbook exhibition and a newly introduced advisory service round off the programme for Education Week. In addition, on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 8.00 pm, the teachers’ cabaret group ‘Lehrkraft’ will perform its new programme ‘Inklusion exklusiv’ at the UNIKUM Theatre run by the Oldenburg Student Union (advance ticket sales at ).

Teaching Week is a professional development programme recognised by the Lower Saxony State School Authority, for which special leave may be requested. Registrations are open until 16 September.
