The German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) has honoured the University of Oldenburg with the "E-Quality" seal of quality. With this award, the DAAD recognises special merits and achievements in the ERASMUS programme.
Prof. Dr Andreas Stein, mathematician and Internationalisation Officer of School V - School of Mathematics and Science, received the award today at the ERASMUS annual conference in Bonn - from DAAD President Prof. Dr Margret Wintermantel, Ulrich Schüller (Federal Ministry of Education and Research) and Xavier Prats Monné (European Commission). Also present were the Head of the International Student Office (ISO), Jenka Schmidt, and Christa Weers, ERASMUS Coordinator at the University. The University of Oldenburg is the only university in Lower Saxony to have been awarded the seal of quality. In addition to Oldenburg, twelve other German universities were successful.
"This is an important award - and recognition of our efforts to anchor the University of Oldenburg even better internationally," explains University President Prof. Dr Babette Simon. With the ERASMUS programme, the EU has been promoting stays abroad, especially for students and lecturers, for 25 years.
The University of Oldenburg has been involved from the very beginning: today, ERASMUS partnerships exist with over 120 universities throughout Europe. In the 2011/2012 academic year alone, 128 students, 20 lecturers and four administrative staff took part in the programme. "Looking at other educational systems, cultural and scientific exchange with other countries opens up new ways of thinking - and is enormously important for studies and research," emphasises Prof. Dr Gunilla Budde, Vice President for Studies and Teaching at the university. The commitment of the ERASMUS and internationalisation officers cannot be overestimated.
With this award, the DAAD recognises, among other things, the personal advice and support provided to ERASMUS participants at the University of Oldenburg as well as the good networking of all project participants in the international field. This is the second time the university has received the seal of quality.
