With seventh place in the "Large Universities" category, the University of Oldenburg is once again among the ten best start-up universities in Germany and the best in Lower Saxony.
Particularly good support for start-ups and top networking in start-up promotion - this is certified by the start-up radar published today by the University of Oldenburg. In the report published by the Stifterverband für die Deutsche Wissenschaft, the University is once again among the ten best universities in the "Large Universities" category and thus the best in Lower Saxony. It has been awarded the "Gründungsradar - exemplary achievements 2022" seal of quality.
The report also highlights the University of Oldenburg as one of four positive case studies on the topic of sustainability: it dovetails its focus on research and teaching on sustainability issues with start-up support in an exceptional way. A total of 48 universities took part in the start-up radar in the "Large universities" category.
"The University of Oldenburg has been one of the best start-up universities in Germany for many years. It is particularly important for us to support sustainable entrepreneurship and thus fulfil our social responsibility. The majority of the start-up projects we support also contribute to one of the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals," says University President Prof Dr Ralph Bruder.
Among the top ten universities in five out of six building blocks
196 universities across Germany took part in the survey as part of the start-up radar. The indicators on the basis of which the ranking is determined are incorporated into six different modules for evaluation. The University of Oldenburg is among the top ten universities in five of these. In addition to a top ranking in the modules start-up support and networking, it is also among the ten best universities in the modules monitoring and evaluation, start-up anchoring as well as start-up sensitisation and start-up qualification. In the current ranking, the start-up radar also surveyed the role of sustainability in start-up support for the first time.
The Start-up and Innovation Centre (GIZ) of the Department for Research and Technology Transfer coordinates and organises start-up support at the university together with the Professorship for Entrepreneurship and the Adjunct Professorship for Innovation Management and Sustainability. The GIZ strengthens the regional start-up ecosystem and supports academic founders on their path to self-employment. An important building block is the "EXIST-Potentiale" project, which provides regional impetus for start-up support. Through targeted counselling and events, the existing network of start-ups is continuously expanded and a "Startup Region Northwest" is established with regional partners.
The start-up radar is a Germany-wide ranking. For the sixth time, it analysed the efforts made by universities to strengthen the start-up culture. It is funded by the Marga and Kurt Möllgaard Foundation and the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection and is organised by the Stifterverband.
