Like the University of Oldenburg, the Ocean University of China in Qingdao is also known for its marine research. In future, both universities want to cooperate in research and exchange students and teaching staff.
Oldenburg University President Prof Dr Dr Hans Michael Piper signed a cooperation agreement to this effect during his participation in a delegation trip to China. "Just like the University of Oldenburg, Ocean University has a high reputation in marine research," said Piper on his return. "I am sure that the co-operation in research and teaching that has now been agreed will be a win-win situation for both sides."
The University's Institute of Chemistry and Biology of the Marine Environment (ICBM) has already been in contact with marine researchers in Qingdao for several years. The Oldenburg oceanographer Prof. Dr Jörg-Olaf Wolff visited Qingdao on the occasion of a symposium and will once again take part in a Chinese-German specialist conference in autumn together with another ICBM researcher, environmental biochemist Prof. Dr Peter Schupp.
The ICBM also intends to deepen its contacts with marine researchers at Shanghai Ocean University and is planning further formal co-operation.
