Graduate School receives further funding

Further funding for the "Science and Technology" Graduate School: OLTECH receives further funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) until 2014.

The Graduate School "Natural Science and Technology" (OLTECH) at the University of Oldenburg will continue to receive funding from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). This means that since its launch in 2009, OLTECH has had a total of 0.5 million euros from the fund at its disposal until October 2014.

"As part of the Graduate Academy, the Graduate School of School V - School of Mathematics and Science forms a building block for the sustainable development of the University of Oldenburg into a successful research university," emphasises the initiator of the Graduate School and biologist Prof. Dr Georg Klump. There are currently four degree programmes under the umbrella of OLTECH, which focus on neurosensory science, environmental sciences and biodiversity, materials science and renewable energies. In order to optimise career opportunities for young scientists, the Graduate School combines specialist courses with academic appointments.

There are currently 97 doctoral students enrolled in the Graduate School. The aim is to double this number by the end of 2014. The "Gravitational Physics" doctoral degree programme starting in the summer semester and the establishment of further doctoral degree programmes - also in connection with the European Medical School - will ensure growth. The "Fast Track" programmes that are now possible are also contributing to further development. Here, excellent graduates of Bachelor's degree programmes can immediately take up doctoral studies.
